Resource Specialist

Position Summary:

Volunteer Resource Specialists play a crucial role in supporting our Members as they work towards achieving their tasks. This role involves direct interaction with Members, providing them with guidance and support, and effectively navigating necessary resources for their task-oriented plans.

Key Responsibilities:

 Member Support:

  • In collaboration with the Kindness Initiative team, determine which resource area of specialty best fits the volunteer. 
  • Support Members in establishing contact with the appropriate resources identified by their Case Manager. Assist the Member with identifying alternative resources if necessary. Maintain a professional, supportive, and non-judgmental rapport.
  • Assist Members in the process of identifying barriers to their tasks and advocating for new resources from the Kindness Initiative Resource Director and Case Managers. 
  • Identify gaps and ineligibility criteria in resources and assist in finding additional appropriate resources.
  • It is crucial to uphold confidentiality by ensuring that any personal or sensitive information shared by clients remains private and secure within the Kindness Initiative.     Identification of service providers in their resource category
  • Vetting these service providers
  • Building communications/relationships with individuals at these service providers/resources
  • Assisting Members navigate as to which service provider best meets their needs
  • Assisting Members in accessing the specific service provider through their contacts
  • Following-up with the Member after the Member’s contact with the service provider for a feedback short survey of their experience with that particular service provider

 

Resource Navigation:

  • Utilize the Kindness Initiative resource database.
  • Share new resources with the Director of Resources that are not currently listed in our database.
  • Assist Members with contacting resources and filling out applications for services (Member submits).

Communication and Coordination:

  • The Case Manager will maintain regular communication with the Resource Specialist. 
  • Attend volunteer team meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Ensure all Member interactions are confidential in accordance with Kindness Initiative policies, using only the first name and last initial to identify Members.
  • Update volunteer calendar with absences longer than one week.
  • Discuss capacity and workload with the Director of Resources. 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for helping others and a commitment to supporting Members in their journey.
  • Willingness to remain current in your specialty and/or volunteer-assigned area.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Training and Support:

  • Kindness Initiative will provide onboarding training and ongoing training sessions.
  • The Clinical Program Director, Case Managers, and/or the Director of Resources will provide ongoing support as needed.
  • Refer to the communication flow chart. 

Time Commitment:

  • Minimum commitment of two hours per week regarding Member and Member’s needs.
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate Member’s needs
  • Attend training sessions and appreciation events.
