Mitzvah Volunteer

Position Summary

Mitzvah volunteers play a crucial role in supporting the Kindness Initiative organization as we work towards helping vulnerable Jewish households in San Diego County. This role offers various opportunities for volunteers to collaborate with our team and/or Members, contributing to the organization’s mission.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Administrative

  • Data Entry
    • Providing administrative support to ensure efficient office operation
    • Assisting with the preparation of presentations, reports, and other documents
    • Inputting data into computer systems, maintaining records, and organizing files.
  • Scheduling and Coordination
    • Assisting with scheduling appointments, meetings, and events. This may involve booking venues, arranging logistics, and sending out invitations or reminders.
  • Document Preparation
    • Drafting and formatting documents such as letters, memos, reports, and presentations.
  • Database Management
    • Updating and maintaining contacts, donors, volunteers, or other organizational information databases.
  • Supporting Projects
    • Providing administrative support for specific projects or initiatives within the organization.
  • Assisting with Mailings
    • Helping to prepare and send out mailings, newsletters, or promotional materials.

Event Planning

  • Coordinating with vendors, suppliers, and service providers
  • Securing event locations and helping with necessary permits
  • Creating event timelines and schedules
  • Managing event logistics, including setup, breakdown, and on-site coordination
  • Assisting with event marketing, promotion, individual and/or corporate sponsorship etc. 
  • Coordinating with speakers, presenters, and entertainment 
  • Handling guest RSVPs and registrations

Fundraising  

  • Administrative Support 
    • Assisting with various administrative tasks such as preparing mailings, organizing files, and handling logistics for fundraising activities.
  • Community Engagement
    • Engaging with the community to build relationships and encourage local support for fundraising efforts.
  • Event Planning and Execution
    • Helping organize and run fundraising events such as charity auctions, galas, walks, or marathons.
  • Donor Outreach
    • Contacting potential donors, whether individuals or businesses, via phone calls, emails, or in-person visits to solicit contributions 
  • Individual/Corporate Sponsorships 
    • Identifying and approaching individual/businesses for sponsorship opportunities 
  • Donors Stewardship 
    • Writing thank-you notes, making follow-up calls, and organizing appreciation events to acknowledge and retain donors.

Helping Hands 

  • Pick up and delivery assistance (for Members or the organization) 
  • Assisting at events 
  • Shift work at an event. 
  • As a need arises 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for helping others and a commitment to supporting the Kindness Initiative and Members in their journey.
  • Willingness to remain current in your volunteer-assigned area.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Training and Support:

  • Kindness Initiative will provide onboarding training and ongoing training sessions.
  • Volunteer Program Coordinator will provide ongoing support as needed.
    • Refer to the communication flow chart. 
  • Administrative and Fundraising Volunteers will work directly with the Executive Director.

Time Commitment:

  • Administrative – 3 hours minimum per week  
  • Event Planning – varies depending on event 
  • Fundraising – 2 hours minimum per week
  • Helping Hands  – As needed 
  • Flexible scheduling 
  • Attend training sessions and appreciation events.
