Lives Changed

Crisis does not discriminate. It touches every corner of Jewish life in San Diego. Behind our mission are families facing sudden shifts: a spouse navigating a cancer diagnosis and mounting bills, or an older couple on a fixed income trying to remain safely in their home, or a single mom who lost her job and needs resume building and job coaching. We are here for those quietly holding everything together. We ensure that no one in our Jewish community faces their hardest moment alone.

By prioritizing a teach-a-person-to-fish philosophy, we empower members to build lasting self-sufficiency and stability.”

"At 82 years old and living on a fixed income, I felt overwhelmed when I received an overdue utility notice I could not afford. Something as basic as keeping my lights on suddenly felt out of reach. When I contacted Kindness Initiative, they responded immediately and covered the balance. More than the financial help, I felt relief knowing I was not alone. Their support reminded me that my community cares about my dignity and would not let me face hardship by myself."

"When I first reached out to Kindness Initiative, I was overwhelmed and didn't know where to begin. I had heard about CalFresh and Medi-Cal but the paperwork, the portals, the requirements, it all felt impossible to figure out on my own. My case manager sat with me, walked me through every question on the applications, and made sure I understood exactly what I was signing up for. I didn't have to navigate any of it alone. Because of their hands-on support, I was approved for both programs and now have food on my table and healthcare I can actually access. I can't thank them enough for opening so many new resources that are making my life better every single day."

"As a father and provider, asking for help during a period of severe financial hardship was incredibly difficult. From the first conversation, Kindness Initiative treated my family with respect and genuine care. They helped cover essential expenses, supported my son’s schooling, and provided employment coaching to help me return to work. They also supported my wife so she could complete her education and find a new job. Because of this support, our family has regained stability, hope, and a future we can build on."
