KIM Journey – Male, 38

Member Story:

Our featured Kindness Initiative Member is a 38-year-old single man who, do to his current health circumstances, is unable to work. He is also currently undergoing treatments for cancer. He was referred to the Kindness Initiative (KI) by Jewish Family Services, a local non-profit aiming to to equip Jewish individuals and families with the building blocks to thrive. When he first came to KI, he was in need of housing, companionship, an advocator to assist him with medical needs, home cooked meals, and community. By taking the time to get to know this member, we were able to connect him with the perfect KI volunteer angel to assist with his needs.

Together as a team, we’ve helped him find housing near his treatments and doctors. In response to resources we provided him, this member was able to secure his own accommodation. His KI volunteer was able accompany him to home viewing to assess the suitability. His angel also helped schedule doctor visits and checked in weekly to ensure he was not alone and had hot meals to enjoy. Additionally, his volunteer angel has been a listening ear and a support system while he heals and gets back on his feet. Through our Adopt-A-Kindness Family sponsorship program, we were able to secure a monthly stipend to help him with his medical bills. Through monthly donations, this program allows you or your organization to make a substantial difference in the life of a local Jewish individual or household. This story is proof that our Kindness Initiative donations are so important to the livelihoods and of our KI members.
